Karina Bergmans’ Art Events Fresh for Fall
TEXT-ING Goes to Brooklyn!!!
I will be bringing my TEXT-ING project to Brooklyn, NY, for the 13th
annual D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival® from Sept. 25th to
Sept. 27th, 2009 DUMBO, Brooklyn NYC.
TEXT-ING consists of the letters of the alphabet created in letter
shaped pillows which are manipulated in public intervention in the
creation of endless words. In a time in which text messaging is a
direct and often exteme form of instant communication, TEXT-ING as a
sculptural project allows participants to physically engage in word
play. The public is invited to manipulate the pillows to form words,
rest or lounge with their favorite letter, take pictures. Thus the
pillows themselves become a text msg.
Nestled in between and underneath the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges,
the DUMBO is the setting for “the three-day multi-site
neighborhood-wide event is a one-of-a-kind art happening: where
serendipity meets the haphazard and where the unpredictable, spontaneous
and downright weird thrive. The now teenage D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the
Bridge Festival® presents touchable, accessible, and interactive art,
on a scale that makes it the nation’s largest urban forum for
experimental art.”

SAW GALLERY NESTS for Animal House until September 26, 2009
I was commissioned to create a few nests for SAW Gallery’s Animal
House: Works of Art Made by Animals. I created 2 large weaver bird nests
and small sunbird nest. The exhibition features
“a critical examination of animal creativity versus exploitation, and
explores animal creativity in the natural world, as well as
collaborations between human artists and their pet companions. Part
historical exhibition, part art show, Animal House is sure to surprise,
enlighten and provoke.”
