Galerie Orange est heureuse de présenter pour la première fois dans son espace une sélection d’œuvres du peintre d’origine irlandaise Sean Rudman. Dans la tradition du modèle vivant, le corps s’immobilise pour l’artiste, le temps d’une esquisse à la volette ou d’un travail d’observation acharné. Sean Rudman invite plutôt ses modèles à retrouver le mouvement naturel de la conversation et des gestes du quotidien afin de capter une séquence à défaut d’un temps d’arrêt. Il en résulte l’illusion d’une suite de petits films peints, vifs et ininterrompus, où la couleur et la ligne participent à part égale à un instant partagé Rudman adhère certainement à l’idée que « tout portrait se situe au confluent d’un rêve et d’une réalité » (G. Perec). Cette citation pourrait aisément s’appliquer à l’ensemble de son œuvre, également tournée vers le paysage, la nature morte et la scène de genre, à la manière d’un rêve éveillé. La touche nerveuse et le colori vibrant donnent à penser que l’artiste capte et traduit simultanément. Tous ces lieux habités se retrouvent ici et maintenant dans une perpétuelle transfiguration artistique : avide de la trace et de l’empreinte colorée, l’artiste peint toutes tribulations intimes se dérobant à l’œil nu. Sean Rudman est né en 1951 à Cork en Irlande. Après avoir entamé des études en architecture à l’Université de Nottingham, en Grande-Bretagne, il poursuit ses études à l’Académie de Port-Royal à Paris, puis continue sa formation artistique au Paddington Institute et au Putney School of Art à Londres en Angleterre. Connu aussi bien pour son travail en peinture qu’en gravure, il reçoit le grand prix du concours d’Estampe Loto-Québec en 2001 et le Prix des arts visuels Stelio-Sole lors des de Trois-Rivières en 2004. Son travail a fait l’objet de nombreuses expositions solos et collectives au Québec, en France, en Suisse et en Grande-Bretagne et fait partie de nombreuses collections privées et publiques. L’artiste vit et travaille au Québec depuis près de trente ans. _
Galerie Orange is pleased to present for the first time in the gallery space a selection of works by the Irish-born painter Sean Rudman. Painting in the tradition of the live model, where for the artist, the body comes to a halt for a brief moment, just allowing enough time for a quick sketch or a passionate observation. Sean Rudman invites his models to rediscover the natural movement of conversation and everyday gestures in order to capture a sequence devoid of any pause. His work results in the illusion of a series of short films, painted briskly and uninterruptedly, where the colors and lines participate in equal parts in the shared moment.
Rudman certainly adheres to the idea that “all portraits are to be found at the confluence of dreams and reality” (G. Perec). This quote can be easily applied to the artist’s work as a whole, which is equally inspired by landscapes, still-life and genre scenes, which take the form of an awakened dream. His anxious stroke and bright colors suggest that the artist is able to both understand and translate simultaneously. All these inhabited places can be found here and now in perpetual artistic transformation: avid for the trace and the colored impression, the artist paints intimate tribulations usually hidden from the naked eye. Sean Rudman was born in 1951 in Cork, Ireland. After starting a formation in architecture at Nottingham University in the UK, he went on to the Académie de Port-Royal in Paris, France and continued his artistic formation at the Paddington Institute and the Putney School of Art in London, England. Known for both his painted and printed work, he won, in 2001, the print competition organized by Loto-Québec and in 2004, he received the Stelio-Sole visual arts prize during the Grands Prix Culturels in Trois-Rivières, Québec. His work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Quebec, France, Switzerland, and in the UK and can be found in many private and public collections. He has lived and worked in Quebec for over thirty years. _
