| Ditch work early and join us tomorrow afternoon at 4pm for an artist talk by Penelope Umbrico!
Penelope Umbrico employs methods of appropriation, extraction, and intervention, using found images that she feels point to a deflation or a rupture in idealized fictions of contemporary society. The three series of work on exhibition at p|m Gallery: Broken Sets (eBay), 2009- 2010, Zenith Replacement Parts, 2010, Desk Trajectories (As Is), 2010 are composed of images Umbrico has downloaded from eBay and craigslist, cropped, printed, and arrayed. p|m Gallery has been working with Penelope Umbrico since 2005; we have shown her work at art fairs in Toronto, Mexico City, Madrid, and Miami. Her work has recently been included in solo and group exhibitions at BAM, Brooklyn; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; PS 1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; Pingyao International Photography Festival, Pingyao, China; Foto-Festival, Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, Germany; Aperture Foundation Gallery, New York; New York Photography Festival ; and Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia. Penelope Umbrico also has a site specific photo installation in Terminal 1, Pearson Airport as part of the Scotiabank Contact Photo Festival and a concurrent Broken Sets (eBay) exhibition at LMAK Project, New York, May 13- June 20, 2010. www.lmakprojects.com
